Happy Birthday Bhubaneswar!

Yes people, our loved capital city turned 69 and Smarter!! 

On this particular day in the year 1948, India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation-stone for the new city. The transformation of an ancient “temple town” to the modern city of Bhubaneswar was accomplished by German architect Dr Otto H Koenigsberger in 1948.

Taking pride in being “Bhubaneswarites”, we bring you a few unknown facts about the fastest emerging city in the world.

Bhubaneswar 

1. Bhubaneswar is situated in between Daya & Kuakhia river. Daya river banks (Dhauli) is the place where the historic Kalinga war was fought between Samrat Ashoka & people of Kalinga.

2. Bhubaneswar Rapid Transport System (BRTS) the much awaited bus rapid transit in the capital city will be designed by the 
Ahmedabad based Center for Environmental Planing and Technology (CEPT)

3. Bhubaneswar Airport turned international on 10th July 2015.

4. Bhubaneswar has been ranked among the Top 10 non-metro cities in India to relocate.

5. In 2012, Bhubaneswar was ranked third among Indian cities, in terms of starting and operating a business by the World Bank.

6. With several high profile educational institutions, Bhubaneswar is the education hub of Eastern India.

7.  Bhubaneswar is also the eastern India’s IT hub having major Indian software and BPO firms like Infosys, Tech-Mahindra, TCS, Wipro, Mindfire, Mindspace, Genpact, Firstsource, Mindtree and MphasiS.

8. Cupertino in California which houses the world famous company Apple is considered the sister city of Bhubaneswar.

9. Bhubaneswar is all set to host World cup Hockey in 2018 after successfully hosting Champions Trophy.

10. Bhubaneswar hosted India’s first Street Store concept where poor people could shop around for the clothes.
